Fairchild Dobros & Custom-Built Guitars, Dreadnaught and Mandolins, are being produced for over 35 years.
Note the photo of Raymond Fairchild holding this Dobro on his lap.
Builder Raymond Fairchild incorporates innovative ideas in all his instruments and each instrument is in some way unique or one of a kind.
This Dobro is a large body, depth, measuring 3-3/4 inches at the neck and 4-3/4 inches, at the tail piece. Loud voice with a strong sustain, baffled open body, no sound ring or posts. Fret markers are unique abalone and resemble the Martin D45 pattern and has 22 frets.
Natural lacquer finish. Brazilian Rosewood fret board. Head plate is also Brazilian Rosewood. Saddle inserts are ebony capped maple. Tuners are Schaller.
Strings are Beard. Beard cone. Spider is Beard #14. All other metal hardware is from Stew-Mac.
This Dobro is one of several "build in process" Dobros Ray has been working on. Normally this Brazilian Rosewood Dobro would sell for $3,500 and upward.
Since completion of the building of this fine instrument. I have a seven year old Fairchild Brazilian Rosewood Dobro...a Sister to this guitar....same materials in the construction, and both Dobros compare in sound and tone and sustain.
